EDDEA to design a new luxury hotel for Serras Collection in Seville’s iconic Banco Popular building

EDDEA will carry out the comprehensive refurbishment of Banco Popular’s historic Andalusian headquarters to house a luxury hotel. The property, located in the iconic building at number 12 Avenida de la Constitución in Seville, will become a 43-room hotel, with a design that includes a restaurant and a terrace on the top floor overlooking the city’s cathedral.
The work of the architect Aníbal González, it was built between 1915 and 1917 and is one of the finest examples of the Sevillian Regionalism of that period. Among the building’s most distinctive features are its tower, whose crown resembles a church dome, and a slender external staircase with a polygonal plan.
The initiative stems from the agreement reached by Banco Santander, the current owner of the property, with the hotel operator Serras Collection. It will be the first hotel in Andalusia for this Barcelona-born group and will open as a five-star grand luxury hotel.
The project was promoted by RetailCo (the Banco Santander subsidiary that manages real estate assets) with the aim of enhancing its most important building in Seville. CBRE Spain advised the company both on the search for a tenant and on the technical consultancy for the property, where it led this competitive commercial process.
Founded in 2021, Serras Collection is a management company specialising in five-star boutique hotels with a maximum of seventy rooms, set in privileged urban and holiday locations. It currently runs one hotel in Barcelona and another in Andorra, which opened in December 2022, and plans to manage a total of five hotels within five years.
Comprehensive refurbishment
Jordi Serras, the firm’s co-founding vice-president, says that “Seville is a strategic point in our expansion plan because of its profile as an international city and because it fits perfectly with our philosophy of relaxed luxury. It is experiencing growth that is as well deserved as it is necessary, and we want to do our bit to consolidate this destination as a European benchmark”.
The building on the Avenida de la Constitución will undergo a complete refurbishment by EDDEA. What is currently an office building will become a 43-room luxury hotel with a strong Food&Beverage component, with dining on the ground floor and an emblematic, singular rooftop with unique views of Seville Cathedral.
