Condé Nast Traveler visits Serras Sevilla

Condé Nast Traveler devotes its First In section to Serras Sevilla, the fourth hotel in the Serras Collection and the brand’s first in Andalusia, which has opened twenty-five metres from the Cathedral.
Behind the 43 rooms
Behind its 43 rooms lie years of work to transform three listed historic buildings — among them the former residence of Álvaro Dávila, Marquis of Villamarta, designed by Aníbal González and a jewel of Sevillian Regionalist architecture — into a contemporary hotel deeply bound up with the city. The magazine sums it up: “a pharaonic refurbishment that has culminated in this gem, which restores a historic building to its former splendour. The work is signed by the Seville practice EDDEA, with advice from CBRE España”.
The courtyard, the roof and the Giralda
The feature walks through the elements that structure the project: the interior courtyard reserved for guests, with Mudéjar-inspired fountains and orange trees; the Fismuler restaurant, also open to the street; and the Almagra Rooftop, where the Cathedral and the Giralda “seem to have been put there just for you”, beside Aníbal González’s colourful minaret.
For EDDEA, the commission was about enhancing the existing heritage and adapting it to a new life: giving each of the three houses back its identity, reinstating the courtyard as a bioclimatic device and turning the roof into a fifth façade.
