Located in Seville's eastern district, in the Polígono Aeropuerto area, this residential complex breaks with the monotony of its surroundings, where a weak sense of neighbourhood prevails alongside an ill-proportioned architectural repetition of single-family houses and apartment buildings.

With functionality and innovation as the guiding threads of the project, EDDEA proposed an aesthetic and morphological shift in the image of this outlying area. The design of this subsidised housing complex thus sets out to offer an alternative to the usual, regulation-driven approach to this type of building.

Affordable homes of high architectural quality

EDDEA started from the premise of transforming the local landscape through this development. To do so, it chose to leave the central block, one of the project's three multi-storey buildings, unbuilt and to concentrate all the buildable floor area along the edges. This leaves an open space inside the development that acts as a link and a meeting point for residents.

Beyond the function and configuration of the complex, the maximum and minimum heights permitted in each area are put to use to generate an innovative profile that gives the whole proposal its distinctive character.

The goal: an impeccable result at minimum cost

The purpose of this building is none other than to offer an alternative on the market for those who, for financial reasons, cannot access conventional housing. Combining low cost with high architectural value makes a better quality of life possible for its residents.

This required a design that was economically viable yet able to meet the needs of its occupants. The project also sets out to bring added value to a district of uniform architecture through its design, its morphology and the creation of a unique identity that gives character to the area in which it stands.

Space and light

For residents, and for the inhabitants of a city as full of light as Seville in general, it is essential that both their homes and the shared areas are bright. The layout of the homes therefore seeks the best orientation for the daytime rooms.

Each living space opens onto a terrace set within one of the recesses that compose the façade. These recesses are introduced to avoid a serial repetition that would be aesthetically monotonous, and instead give the elevation a more engaging rhythm.
