A nineteenth-century workshop house turned into a triple-height loft
This EDDEA project on Calle Real de la Carretería in Seville refurbishes a nineteenth-century workshop house as a temporary residence for a Sevillian family who live in New York and keep their home here.
The façade still speaks of the warehouse it once was; only a change of colours from the original turns it into a domestic front.
It is a turnkey project, carried out during the pandemic and completed on time and on budget.
The home unfolds over three floors, and its main element is the steel staircase built on site, which looks out over the triple-height living room on the ground floor. To emphasise the generous interior heights, floor-to-ceiling timber doors more than three metres tall were made.
The interior combines industrial parquet and polished concrete floors, with glass balustrades that keep the spaces visually connected. The steel of the staircase keeps its natural colour and leaves the welded joints between flights exposed.
