De Cárdenas sets out the strategic foundations of port–city integration under the new ports Strategic Framework

José María de Cárdenas, head of the Technical Office of the Port Urban District (Distrito Urbano Portuario) of Seville, presented the paper “Strategic foundations for port–city integration: liveability, inclusiveness, connectivity and identity” at the conference on the new Strategic Framework for the Spanish port system, whose motto was to make ports “for and by people”.
Those four axes – liveability, inclusiveness, connectivity and identity – are the ones that structure the DUP masterplan and that the studio has gone on to champion at international forums.
At the same conference, the president of the Port Authority of Seville, Rafael Carmona, summed up the challenge: “Today we are once again rethinking the future of the port and of Seville, with the challenge of stitching Avenida de Las Razas, Avenida de Guadalhorce and the Muelle de Tablada back into the city”.
