ArchDaily publishes EDDEA’s swimming centre in Barbate

ArchDaily has published the Barbate swimming centre (Cádiz), a 2,350-square-metre facility designed by EDDEA and completed in 2011.

The building sits on the edge of the marshes and draws its identity from the surrounding landscape: the geometry of the salt pans, the horizontality of the water and the mass of the nearby pine woods. The pavilion resolves the sports programme in a compact volume that avoids visual impact on the protected setting.

The building has been widely covered in the specialist press: Divisare featured it with photographs by Duccio Malagamba, and the project was among the candidates for the 2011 Enor Grand Prize and on the shortlist for the 11th Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism.
